Green Agri Marketing and Fatima Sugar Mills Advance to Phase II Commercial Validation of Biological Control Technology in Sugarcane
21 September 2026 | Fatima Sugar Mills Limited
Green Agri Marketing (GAM) has initiated discussions with Fatima Sugar Mills Limited to advance its biological control technology in sugarcane production from research-based trials toward Phase II commercial farmer-scale validation.
A meeting was held on 21 September 2026 between Kashif Khan, Director Sales & Marketing, Green Agri Marketing, Zafar Iqbal, Product Development Manager, Green Agri Marketing, and Mr. Zulfiqar Waseem Malik, General Manager Cane, Fatima Sugar Mills Limited, along with members of the mill’s Cane Department.
Building on Phase I Research and Development
The proposed Phase II program follows trials already conducted during Phase I at the Fatima Sugar Mill Research & Development Farm under the supervision of Dr. Ghulam Sabir Hussain Sial, GM Fatima Sugar Research & Development Centre.
The Phase I work provided a foundation for taking the technology into broader field conditions. The next phase is designed to evaluate its practical performance at commercial farmer scale, under the supervision and coordination of the Fatima Sugar Mills Cane Department.
Focus of Phase II Commercial Validation
The upcoming trials are planned for the February 2027 sugarcane cultivation season and will focus on key production and quality parameters, including:
- Red Rot disease management
- Sugarcane germination and crop establishment
- Tillering and crop growth
- Plant development and crop vigor
- Cane quality
- Sugar content and recovery
- Comparative performance of treated and control plots, where feasible
The program will also seek to generate systematic field observations and data that can support the development of a practical application protocol for commercial sugarcane production.
Joint Field-Level Implementation
Under the proposed work plan, selected farmer fields will be identified in consultation with the Fatima Sugar Mills Cane Department. Baseline field information and, where appropriate, soil assessments will be conducted before implementation.
Green Agri Marketing will provide the biological control technology, technical guidance, application support, field monitoring and documentation. The Fatima Sugar Mills Cane Department will support farmer coordination, field supervision, monitoring and assessment of cane quality and recovery.
Regular observations will be recorded throughout the crop cycle, followed by a final evaluation of disease management, crop development, cane quality and sugar recovery.
From Research Validation to Commercial Application
The Phase II initiative represents an important step in developing a structured pathway for biological control technology in sugarcane:
Phase I – Research & Development Farm Trials
↓
Phase II – Commercial Farmer-Scale Validation
↓
Technical & Field Evaluation
↓
Protocol Optimization
↓
Potential Commercial Upscaling
The results of the commercial trials will provide field-level evidence for evaluating the technology’s performance under practical farming conditions and informing future commercialization and wider farmer adoption.
Advancing Sustainable Sugarcane Production
Green Agri Marketing aims to support the transition toward sustainable, nature-based agricultural solutions that can contribute to improved crop health, soil health and resilient farming systems.
Through collaboration with sugar mills, researchers, cane departments and farmers, GAM is working to bridge the gap between biological agricultural research and practical field-level implementation.
The proposed Phase II collaboration with Fatima Sugar Mills is another step toward bringing biological control technology closer to commercial sugarcane farmers and large-scale agricultural application.
