Green Agri Marketing and Kashmir Sugar Mills Limited Hold Joint Farmer Meeting to Advance Climate-Resilient Sugarcane Production
Shorkot, Pakistan | October 2026
Green Agri Marketing (Pvt.) Ltd., in collaboration with Kashmir Sugar Mills Limited, organized a joint farmer meeting at Shorkot Circle, Gate No. 1, to advance Phase III implementation and promote the adoption of biological control technology under the National Sugarcane Climate Resilience & Productivity Programme (NSCRPP–Pakistan).

The meeting focused on the growing challenges of climate change in sugarcane cultivation and the need for sustainable agricultural solutions to improve crop productivity, manage fungal diseases, enhance soil health, and support sugar recovery.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Abdur Rauf, General Manager Cane, Mr. Rana Maqsood Ahmed, Deputy General Manager, and members of the Kashmir Sugar Mills Cane Department field team. Representing Green Agri Marketing were Mr. Kashif Khan Director Sale & Marketing and Mr. Zafar Iqbal Product Development Manager, who participated in discussions on programme implementation and the wider adoption of biological control technology in sugarcane production.
Addressing Climate Change Challenges in Sugarcane
Participants discussed the potential impacts of changing weather patterns and climate stress on sugarcane growth, cane yield, sugar recovery, soil health, and fungal disease pressure.

Particular attention was given to red rot disease, a major fungal disease of sugarcane that can cause significant production losses in susceptible crops. The discussion highlighted the importance of integrated disease management, appropriate crop management practices, and preventive measures to reduce production risks.
The participants also emphasized the need to maintain soil health and strengthen the resilience of sugarcane farming systems against increasing climatic uncertainties.
Field Visit to Sugarcane Crop Treated with Biological Technology
As part of the programme activities, the team visited a sugarcane field where Green Agri Marketing’s Trichoderma harzianum product had been applied. During the field visit, the farmer was briefed on the technology, its mode of action, appropriate application practices, and its potential role in supporting sustainable sugarcane production.
The discussion focused on the importance of biological disease management, beneficial soil microbial activity, root-zone health, and the integration of biological technology into existing crop management practices. The farmer was also informed about the potential benefits of adopting this nature-based solution as part of an integrated approach to sugarcane cultivation.
The field visit provided an opportunity for direct farmer engagement and practical knowledge-sharing, helping strengthen awareness of biological technology and its application under local farming conditions.
Promoting Trichoderma harzianum for Sustainable Sugarcane Production
Green Agri Marketing recommended the adoption of Trichoderma harzianum, a beneficial fungus used in biological disease management and soil health improvement, as a component of integrated sugarcane crop management.

When appropriately formulated and applied, Trichoderma harzianum can help suppress certain soil-borne fungal pathogens and support beneficial microbial activity around plant roots. Its use can complement other agronomic practices and contribute to more sustainable crop management.
The discussions also explored opportunities to integrate biological technology into sugarcane production systems to support crop establishment, root development, and resilience. Improvements in cane yield, disease incidence, and sugar recovery can be assessed through systematic field monitoring and comparative evaluation.
Strengthening Industry–Farmer Collaboration
The joint meeting and field visit marked an important step in strengthening collaboration between Green Agri Marketing and Kashmir Sugar Mills Limited for Phase III implementation under NSCRPP–Pakistan.
The participation of the Kashmir Sugar Mills Cane Department and its field team is expected to support farmer awareness, technical guidance, field-level coordination, and the wider adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
Through continued engagement with farmers and industry stakeholders, the initiative aims to connect biological innovation with practical field applications and encourage informed adoption of climate-resilient sugarcane production technologies.
Towards a Climate-Resilient Sugar Industry
Green Agri Marketing continues to promote nature-based agricultural solutions addressing soil degradation, crop disease pressure, and climate-related production challenges. Through collaboration with sugar mills, farmers, and agricultural stakeholders, the company aims to contribute to healthier soils, sustainable crop management, and long-term agricultural resilience.
This initiative reflects a shared commitment to exploring biological approaches that can support sugarcane productivity, integrated disease management, and the long-term sustainability of Pakistan’s sugar industry.
